The VDP has released the sparkling wine statute that has been worked out for two years. According to it, there will be two categories for sparkling wines in the association: VDP.Sekt with a yeast storage time of 24 months as well as VDP.Sekt.Prestige with 36 months. Only sparkling wines that pass tests and meet the association's quality criteria are allowed to be awarded with the new sparkling wine seal. According to the VDP, there will also be sparkling wines with the VDP eagle for the time being, but without the new seal.
"With the statute, we are starting a quality offensive for German sparkling wine. Our strict quality criteria meet the highest international requirements. Our aim is to use the sparkling wine seal to distinguish lighthouse sparkling wines that are among the world's great sparkling wines", VDP president Steffen Christmann explained the significance for the statute.
