The VDP wineries presented their Great Growths (GG) of the 2020 and 2019 red wine vintages to an invited international trade audience at the Wiesbaden Kurhaus. 612 wines from 311 Great Vineyards were opened, which, according to the VDP, will be sold with around 3,000 bottles each at an average price of 38 euros. Riesling continues to dominate the GGs with 58 percent, followed by Pinot Noir, which accounts for 21 percent. Pinot Blanc accounts for seven percent, Pinot Gris and Silvaner for four percent each.
The preview of the Grosses Gewächse was held for the first time in 2002. At that time, 78 wineries presented wines from about 100 sites at an average price of about 16 euros.
The current tasting videos by Marcus Hofschuster on the wines presented there can be found on the wein.plus channel on Youtube.
