The Association of German Prädikat Wineries (VDP) has accepted the Rheingau-based Krone Assmannshausen winery as a new member. This brings the number of member wineries to 197.

Since 2014, the Krone Assmannshausen Winery has been owned by the Drieseberg family, who also operate the VDP's Geheimer Rat J. Wegeler vineyards in the Rheingau and Moselle regions. Anja and Dr. Tom Drieseberg have been managing the 17th-century winery as partners since 2007, before taking over completely. The winery is known for its Pinot Noir from particularly high-quality plots of Assmannshäuser Höllenberg, the
as "VDP.Grosse Lage" corresponds to the highest level of the association classification. "The archetypes of Pinot Noir, coupled with what the idiosyncratic terroir produces, determine the very special aromas of the Krone wines, which have been matured in the 60-meter-long natural rock cellar for more than 150 years," writes the VDP.

The association, which was founded in 1910, sets strict quality standards for the wines of its members and in this respect is regarded as the association of the top winegrowers in Germany. Together, the VDP.Prädikatsweingüter cultivate around five percent of the German vineyard area.
