The association "Der VDP.Adler hilft e.V." (The VDP Eagle helps) wants to help those affected by the flood disaster in the Ahr region, "who are working in the wine industry and are in acute need, to an appropriate extent and unbureaucratically". The association stated this in a press release.

As a first relief action, "Der VDP.Adler hilft" had financed two acute plant protection treatments of the entire cultivation area by helicopter, because the winegrowing enterprises could not carry them out themselves due to the destroyed machines and infrastructure. In the coming days, the association will consult with organisations on the ground in the Ahr region about the use of the donations "in order to be able to offer the best possible help".

A first focus, he said, is to bring in the upcoming wine harvest to ensure the 2021 vintage. The reconstruction of viticulture and winegrowing operations in the Ahr will involve "financial needs that are unimaginable today". Initiatives like #deradlerhilft could "only be a start". Even though the willingness to donate so far is remarkable, the VDP calls for "not abandoning the wineries with the long-term extent of the disaster".
