The Consorzio di tutela della Valpolicella (Consortium for the Protection of Valpolicella Wines) and the Famiglie Storiche Association have announced in a press release that they have settled all pending legal disputes over the use of the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG. The agreement ends a dispute that had led to the withdrawal of 13 historic wineries from the Consorzio di tutela della Valpolicella in 2009.

According to the joint communiqué, "the two institutions have the common objective, within the framework of their respective competences, to work hard for the development of the DOCG Amarone della Valpolicella and the other appellations of Valpolicella, promoting a climate of fair competition between producers, mutual respect, cooperation and dialogue." They reiterate the importance of defending the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG and the other appellations of the area, promoting them in Italy and abroad and consolidating their success in the interest of the entire winegrowing community.

The Valpolicella Consortium comprises 2,400 companies, including winemakers, wine producers and bottlers, with a total turnover of more than 600 million euros.

Le Famiglie Storiche was founded in 2009 by the merger of ten long-established producers in the Valpolicella area and today comprises 13 members, including renowned wineries such as Allegrini, Masi, Speri, Tedeschi, Tenuta Sant'Antonio, Tommasi and Zenato. Together they generate a turnover of 81 million euros. This corresponds to 23 percent of the total turnover of Amarone della Valpolicella.
