The VDP vintner Uwe Lützkendorf from Bad Kösen (Saale-Unstrut) died a few days ago at the age of 58. The graduate engineer in fermentation and beverage technology had decided in 1991 to re-found the family winery, which had been forcibly integrated into an agricultural production cooperative (LPG) in the GDR in 1959. By the end of his studies in 1990, the Wall had fallen, and a year later the family got its former vineyards back. Uwe Lützkendorf and his father Udo, who died in January 2021 at the age of 83, continued to build up the winery, which ultimately had around ten hectares of vineyards.
Lützkendorf had already been a member of the VDP since 1996. The association had already supported him in the first years of his work in the quality-oriented development of the winery. Whether and how the winery will be continued is currently open.
