The USA has suspended its punitive tariffs on wine and other products until 2026. In return, the EU will also waive the special levies on imports from the USA. The tariffs had been introduced in the dispute over aircraft construction subsidies. Although the negotiators have not yet been able to agree on a final solution, the punitive tariffs are to remain suspended for five years. The European and American negotiators want to negotiate a joint solution during this time.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described Tuesday's deal as an "important step towards resolving the longest trade dispute in the history of the World Trade Organisation WTO".
