Ukraine becomes the 49th member state of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) with immediate effect. It was already an active member of the OIV from 1997 to 2008 and had applied for readmission last September. With a vineyard area of 41,800 hectares, Ukraine currently ranks 31st among the world's producing countries. In 2021, the country produced 660,000 hectolitres of wine.
By joining the OIV, Ukraine will benefit from the information, cooperation and services of the network of around 1,000 experts. These connections also make it possible for Ukraine to participate in the fundamental decisions on the development of the wine sector. As a full member, Ukraine will attend the 43rd World Congress of Vine and Wine in Ensenada, Mexico, in early November and will be represented at the General Assembly.
