The entire hospitality industry in Germany achieved 45 percent more turnover in 2022 than in the previous year. Despite the steep increase, the figures are still 12.5 percent lower than in 2019 - the last year before the Corona crisis. These inflation-adjusted figures were announced by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

In gastronomy, the figures for 2022 show a plus of 39 per cent compared to 2021 - and at the same time a minus of 12.8 per cent compared to 2019. In the serving of beverages, sales were even still almost a third below those of 2019, despite an increase of 63 per cent compared to 2021.

Hotels and other accommodation establishments recorded a 64 per cent increase in turnover in 2022 compared to the previous year. Still, the industry's sales were 9 per cent below 2019 levels. Holiday accommodation and campsites fared better. With increases of 53 and 11 per cent respectively compared to 2021, they also generated higher turnover than in the pre-crisis year 2019, +8.3 and +4.3 per cent respectively.
