Italian wines from the DOC of Tuscany have lost a lot of their appeal in Germany. The market research institute Nomisma has found that in the first nine months of last year, around 20 per cent fewer wines were sold here than in 2017, while total sales of Tuscan wines fell by around four per cent in 2018. The German market is Tuscany's second most important export market after the USA.

Based on these figures, the president of the Chianti DOCG consortium, Giovanni Busi, is calling for a stronger joint presence and "more cooperation among the wine associations in the region".
