The Spanish wine producer Familia Torres*** is investing six million euros in a new winery dedicated exclusively to non-alcoholic wines. This is set to be built by 2026 at the company's headquarters in Pacs del Penedès, Catalonia. Torres has been selling de-alcoholized wines since 2008 and claims to be a world leader in this category. The winery employs the Spinning Cone method.
That investments in this area can be profitable is also demonstrated by a recent report from the wine cooperative Bordeaux Families. At the beginning of 2024, it commissioned a low-temperature vacuum distillation plant (image) with a capacity of 30,000 hectoliters per year, into which 2.5 million euros were invested. It is the first industrial de-alcoholization plant in the Bordeaux wine region. Managing Director Philippe Cazaux has now announced that the results have exceeded expectations. With 17,000 processed hectoliters, the break-even point was reached after just one year. Bordeaux Families de-alcoholizes wines for its own needs and for customers.
