Three associations of the German wine industry want to merge into a single association. The boards of the Federal Association of Wine and Spirits International (BWSI), the Federal Association of German Wineries (BVW), and the Association of German Sparkling Wine Cellars (VDS) have expressed their support for the merger of their three associations. The member companies are to formally decide on the merger in 2026.

According to a press release, the planned merger is preceded by a "proven collaboration." "A merger allows the three associations to consolidate the interests of the wine, sparkling wine, and spirits industries and to leverage synergies," the statement says. The goal is to "strengthen the common voice towards politics, business, and the public.".

The BWSI was founded in 1948 and currently has 49 members. The BVW has been in existence since 1906 and has 60 members. The VDS, founded in 1892, has 46 members.
