Burgundies top the list of the most expensive wines at auctions held by the online auction house iDealwine. The leading house for online wine auctions, according to its own statements, registered a strong demand for great wines in 2021. With 190,000 bottles, 8.5 percent more were auctioned than in 2020, the turnover increased by 19.5 percent to 27.5 million euros.
Wines from Burgundy occupied 49 places of the top 50 most expensive bottles. In 2020, there were 39 places. The most expensive bottle is a Musigny 2006 from Domaine Leroy, which was auctioned for 28,244 euro. The most expensive lot was a case of 12 Grand Cru wines from the 2017 vintage of Domaine de La Romanée-Conti, which fetched 42,857 euros.
The share of wines from Bordeaux in the ranking has been declining for years, as they do not reach the auction results of the great Burgundies.
