For many years, cognac was considered old-fashioned and generated little interest. Now the comeback follows: The Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) reports amazing growth figures of the producers. According to these figures, the cognac houses have been able to increase their volume sales worldwide by 10.2 percent in the past twelve months, with sales increasing by as much as 15.2 percent. In total, the industry achieved a value of more than three billion euros.

One of the key revenue drivers for the cognac producers is the European market. Here, growth rose by 8.1 percent in value and 10.2 percent in volume. Within the EU, 42.1 million bottles were sold according to the BNIC figures. The most important trading partner in the EU according to the figures was Germany, where a whopping 22.2% more bottles were sold than in the previous year. The growth was even more pronounced in Russia and the Baltic States: There, the volume of cognac rose by 73.2%.

Matured cognacs in particular were in demand worldwide: according to the BNIC, the volume of bottles sold in this category rose by a whopping 24.2 percent.
