The tannin in red wine could help suppress the spread of Covid-19 in the human body. This is what scientists at the China Medical University in Taiwan have found out, according to their own information. According to the research results, tannin inhibits the activity of two key enzymes of the virus. The research stems from a project at the university several years ago that identified natural substances with an effect against the development of SARS in humans. As early as 2003, the effectiveness of tannins against SARS was confirmed in several studies. With the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic, the researchers experimented with the possible active substances identified at that time for their effectiveness against Corona. Tannin had achieved the highest suppressive effect among all the substances studied. The identification could be used to develop tannin-based drugs for the treatment of Covid-19 in the future, according to a university statement.
