The Portuguese producer Symington Family Estates has presented a wine from the Douro, the proceeds of which will be used to finance the release of endangered animal and plant species into the wild. Symington is financing the "Rewilding Portugal" project with 15,000 euros and the proceeds from the sale of the wine. It is intended to increase biodiversity in a 120,000-hectare area in the Côa Valley, where endangered animal species will find a new habitat. These include almost extinct eagle species, the Iberian wolf as well as plants, grasses and trees that have become rare. In addition to creating an ecosystem, the aim is to create a form of economy for the inhabitants that is oriented towards the conditions of nature. The project is part of the organisation "Rewilding Europe" in the Netherlands, which works with many partners throughout Europe.

The red wine is a cuvée of the autochthonous varieties Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. It is also available as a 2.25-litre "bag-in-tube". This container is fully recyclable and would produce a much smaller carbon footprint than glass, according to Symington.
