A few days ago, violent storms with hail and heavy rain caused severe damage in the Italian production areas of Veneto and Valpolicella. Local media report that four to five percent of the vineyards have been largely or completely destroyed. The damage is estimated at approximately six million euros.
At San Pietro in Cariano, the storm decimated the harvest by 70 to 100 percent. The epicentre was in Verona, whose vineyards were also destroyed. In the Padua region, about 50 percent of the vineyards were affected. In the Valpolicella, only two of the wine villages suffered major damage.
