Non-alcoholic wine, sparkling wine, beer, cider and spirits, including their reduced-alcohol variants, will increase massively in global sales in the coming years. This trend was determined by the market research institute IWSR in London, which specialises in alcoholic beverages, in a global study. In the study, analysts expect annual consumption to increase by a third by 2026, significantly exceeding previous growth rates.

The new figures of the IWSR show how fast the numbers are currently growing: beer and cider, wine, sparkling wine spirits and RTDs with low as well as no alcohol will account for more than 11 billion US dollars in the ten most important markets worldwide in 2022. The volume sold has increased by seven percent compared to 2021. Here, Germany is - as it has been for years - the world's largest market for non-alcoholic wines, beers, sparkling wines and spirits. It is followed by Japan, Spain and the USA.

The IWSR expects the growth to accelerate further. According to the IWSR, volumes will reach a seven per cent increase globally between 2022 and 2026, compared to five per cent in the 2018-2022 period, with non-alcoholic beverages the main driver of the trend, accounting for over 90 per cent of sales. Reduced-alcohol wine and sparkling wine hardly play a role at present.

Despite the rapid upswing, non-alcoholic wine and sparkling wine as well as beer and spirits currently account for only two percent of total global sales of alcoholic beverages. But the growth rates are remarkable: according to the IWSR, sales in the UK, for example, have increased by almost 58 per cent since 2019.
