The public prosecutor's office in Bad Kreuznach is investigating the Palatinate VDP winery Meßmer because it is said to have sold wines without a valid test number. In addition, wines were not submitted for quality wine testing and were nevertheless sold to customers, the investigators accuse the winery. Moreover, no comprehensible cellar books had been submitted for the 2017 and 2018 vintages, the "Weinwirtschaft" reports. According to the report, the winery itself is not being investigated, but only the former cellar master and production manager Gregor Meßmer. Moreover, according to the report, there was a "non-intentional mixing of wines" in the cellar.

Gregor Meßmer left the winery last summer and now runs the Dr. Steiner winery in Siebeldingen with his wife, including an excursion restaurant. In the meantime, Martin Meßmer had confirmed the events, which had also led to "consequences". In the meantime, the wines concerned had all received the necessary test numbers, and the erroneous procedures had been "cleaned up".

As Gregor Meßmer's successor, the renowned Jonas Bosch is now working as the new cellar master and operations manager for the VDP winery. Previously, he was the cellar master responsible for wine production at the Mugler winery in Gimmeldingen and had helped the winery to achieve a high reputation. Although an investigation by the public prosecutor would have to lead to the temporary suspension of the VDP membership, the association has not made any statement so far.
