South Tyrol has allowed the opening of indoor catering again, defying the requirements of the Italian government in Rome. In most regions of Italy, restaurants and bars are allowed to serve their guests again from 26 April, but only outside. Only from 1 June will catering be allowed indoors again - but only from 5.00 to 18.00. The South Tyrolean government has not accepted these requirements.

The prerequisite for visiting a restaurant indoors there is a so-called "Corona Pass South Tyrol", which can be presented in digital or paper form. This certificate can be obtained either by a negative rapid antigen test that is not older than 48 hours, a vaccination certificate or a medical certificate stating that the person has survived a Corona infection. It is not yet clear whether the Italian state will appeal to the Constitutional Court against the South Tyrolean government's unilateral action. The current rules are in force nationwide until 31 July 2021.
