The German Wine Institute (DWI) has published detailed information on the conditions and yields of the 2019 vintage in the German wine growing regions. According to this information, 2019, like the previous year, was characterised by high temperatures and widespread drought, which was "partly extreme" in some growing regions. In almost all regions, the intensive sunshine in July had led to sunburn damage to the berries. Otherwise there were hardly any problems with vine diseases or pests, which is why very healthy and highly ripe grapes could be brought in almost everywhere.

Many farms also produced Beeren- and Trockenbeerenauslese grapes. A few winegrowers were still hoping for an Eiswein harvest. For example, 42 hectares are still available in Rhineland-Palatinate. However, the risk of leaving grapes hanging for this noble sweet speciality is becoming greater and greater because climate change is shifting the frost days further and further back with temperatures of at least minus seven degrees Celsius.

The 2019 harvest is expected to be 8.4 million hectolitres, four percent below the ten-year average, but with significant regional differences.
