The 54th Vinitaly in Verona has recorded a significant drop in visitors for the first fair after the pandemic. According to the organisers, around 88,000 visitors from 129 countries came, compared to 125,000 in 2019, which means a decline of almost 30 per cent. Among them were 25,000 international professionals and buyers, compared to 33,000 trade visitors in 2019. Around 4,400 exhibitors presented their wines in the exhibition halls.
Most of the international trade visitors came from the USA and Germany. Great Britain followed in third place. Due to travel restrictions still in force because of Covid, only very few wine professionals from China and Japan were able to travel. In contrast, Vinitaly registered more visitors from European countries such as France, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands.
