The Association of Bordeaux AOC and Bordeaux Supérieur wine producers has approved seven other grape varieties for cultivation. At the General Assembly of the Association, the winegrowers decided to grant a growing permit for the four red varieties Arinarnoa, Touriga Nacional, Marselan and Castets, and for the white varieties Alvarinho, Petit Manseng and Liliorila. The reason for this step was the fungus resistance of the varieties, their late ripening and their ability to maintain acidity, aroma and berry size even at hot temperatures. The "historic step" of the approval is due to the changes in cultivation due to climate change, according to a statement.

Winegrowers are now allowed to plant the new seven varieties on up to five percent of their vineyards, thus increasing the total production volume by up to ten percent.
