Land prices around Montalcino continue to rise despite the pandemic. Today, investors pay between 750,000 and one million euros for a hectare of vineyard. This was recently confirmed when several Brunello vineyards changed hands. Thus, the Scopone wine estate was bought by an entrepreneur from Emilia, the Paradisone - Colle degli Angeli estate went to the Azienda Agricola e Vitivinicola Novello from Veneto. According to winenews.it, two more wineries are about to be sold. According to estimates of the Brunello di Montalcino consortium, the total of 2,100 hectares of Brunello vineyards were worth more than two billion euro in 2020. A planting freeze has been in place in the appellation since as early as 1997, freezing the cultivation area for Brunello di Montalcino. There is no intention on the part of the producers and the consortium to open the register for new plantings in the near future. This is causing vineyard prices to rise further.
