The 29-year-old Sebastian Russold from the Cologne wine cellar has won the final of the Sommelier Trophy in Neustadt an der Weinstraße. With his expertise, the Austrian, who lives in Cologne, prevailed over Julian Schweighart from Guido al Duomo in Munich and Emmanuel Rosier from CCM3 Hospitality Consulting in Berlin. In the semi-finals, the three finalists were able to hold their own against Julien Alsoufi from Culinary Domain in Frankfurt, Lisa Bader from The Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich and Florian Richter from the Kronenschlösschen in Eltville-Hattenheim.

The competition is organised every two years by the Sommelier Union Germany. This year's jury was chaired by Master Sommelier Frank Kämmer and was prominently staffed with Sommelier World Champion Marc Almert, Maximilian Wilm, Master Sommelière Stefanie Hehn and other experts. Around 150 guests followed the three-hour marathon of enjoyment on the stage of the Neustadt Saalbau under "2G+" conditions.
