The traditional winery Schloss Vollrads (***) in the Rheingau is investing 10 million euros in a new winery building and an energy centre. Construction work will begin in the coming days. The elongated, flat building will be erected behind the historic castle grounds and is designed to blend in with the terrain and surroundings.

By applying the principle of gravity in the new winery, the processes of grape processing are to be improved. At the same time, wine production and logistics will be facilitated. Overlapping delivery traffic and visitor traffic should thus be avoided in the future.

With a photovoltaic system, battery storage and a combined heat and power unit, 80 percent of the heat and energy requirements of the winery, estate restaurant and event area can be covered by renewable energy. The construction time is estimated at 18 months.
Three years ago, Schloss Vollrads switched to organic farming. The wines of the 2022 vintage will thus be the first organically certified wines of the winery.
