Billy Wagner's Berlin restaurant Nobelhart & Schmutzig has won the German Wine List Award 2021 for the best wine list in Germany. In addition to the "Sommelier's Choice" award, the starred restaurant was also awarded in the "Gourmet & Stars" category. The wine list comprises 1,300 wines from 15 countries and is subdivided into fruit, soil and signature wines.
For the competition, wine lists were submitted in four categories (Gourmet & Stars, Good Bourgeois Cuisine, Bars & Scenic Restaurants, World Cuisine). In the category of bars & trendy restaurants, first place went to the "Freiheit Vinothek" in Ulm, the "Ritterhof zur Rose" in Burrweiler won in the category of good middle-class cuisine and "Il Barcaiolo" in Rottach-Egern won in the category of world cuisine. The special "Regional Heart" prize for the wine list with the best regional focus went to the "Weinstock" restaurant from Volkach and the special "Concept Of The Year" prize to the "Fritz & Felix" in Baden-Baden. For the first time, the jury awarded the special prize "Newcomer Of The Year" to the bar "Weinraum" from Ingolstadt. Participation in the competition is free of charge for the restaurants.
