In the first half of 2021, around 14 per cent more champagne was delivered than in the previous record year of 2018. The figures are 50 per cent higher than in 2020. Significantly more champagne is drunk in Europe, North America and Australia in particular. About 40 percent more orders were received from Germany than in the same period last year. Due to the continued positive sales expectations, the committee of the Comité Champagne, formed by vintners and houses, now set the maximum yield per hectare for the 2021 harvest at 10,000 kilogrammes, which is 25 percent more than in 2020. Due to the current exceptional and difficult climatic conditions and the feared crop failures in some regions of Champagne, the executive board of the Comité Champagne will make further decisions for the harvest at the beginning of September: the dates of the beginning and end of the manual harvest as well as the entry or withdrawal of wines into or from the reserve.
