The Rioja winery Bodegas Ramón Bilbao has bottled three single-vineyard wines for the first time. With this project, which is rather unusual in the region, they want to highlight the terroir and climate of the respective sites. "Rioja is a small region with a huge variety of soils, terroirs and microclimates, which we want to depict with our wines," said Rosana Lisa, who is in charge of the project.

The Finca Lalinde 2019 rosé, for example, is made from 90 per cent Garnacha grapes, whose vines were planted in 1976. The Finca Valhonta 2017 comes one hundred per cent from Tempranillo vines that grow in Bush Wine upbringing near Villalba de Rioja. The spontaneously fermented wine is aged for 18 months in 500-litre wooden barrels from Veneto, followed by eight more months to round out the tannins.

The third wine is the 2016 Finca Ladero, a blend of 80 per cent Tempranillo and 20 per cent Garnacha. The vines in Monte Yerga in Rioja Oriental were planted in 1989.
