The Rioja winery Ramón Bilbao has opened its own winery in the DO Rueda. The red wine producer is thus investing around six million euros in the production of white wines.

According to a press release, the new bodega includes a new production facility and 60 hectares of vineyards - ten hectares more than Ramón Bilbao cultivates in the Rioja. A large part of the new vineyard is planted with the Verdejo grape variety, native to the Rueda, supplemented by some Sauvignon Blanc vines that are more than 20 years old.

"It's an exciting challenge: we have moved from our country of origin to focus on the white wine of this region. We firmly believe that Rueda has a lot of potential," explains Rodolfo Bastida, Managing Director and Technical Director of Ramón Bilbao. The winery has been producing wines in Rueda since 2010 and is now taking a "logical step" with its own winery. The production capacity is around one million litres per year.
