According to the recently published ProWein Sparkling Report, the global revenue from sparkling wines is estimated to reach 48 billion euros by 2025. This keeps it one of the most dynamic products in the wine industry. Prosecco DOC was the market leader with 667 million bottles sold worth 3.6 billion euros, although growth has slowed to 1.1 percent. Increases were also recorded for Crémant (+7.5%), the premium segment, and non-alcoholic sparkling wines, of which 22 million bottles were sold in Germany alone. According to market researchers, this segment is expected to grow double digits in the coming years.

A total of 234.1 million bottles of sparkling wine were sold in Germany in 2025. This is a decrease of 4.8 percent compared to 2024. More than half were labeled "dry," meaning 17 to 32 g/l residual sugar, and a third were labeled "off-dry" with 32 to 50 g/l residual sugar. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines account for only three percent of total production. The report also addresses the discussion in Germany about a legally defined sparkling wine pyramid, similar to that in Austria. Producers criticize that any sparkling wine in Germany can be called "Sekt" – regardless of its origin or whether it was carbonated, fermented in a tank, or in the bottle. There is a lack of a defined designation for high-quality sparkling wines made from German grapes that are produced using the traditional bottle fermentation method. Industry officials would also support a classification.

In Austria, around 25 million liters of sparkling wine were produced in 2025, accounting for about ten percent of the total grape harvest. Exports are becoming increasingly important, with 3.1 million liters. The report also covers Champagne (–2%), Cava (–13%), Franciacorta, and Lambrusco, as well as emerging sparkling wine regions and producing countries such as the United Kingdom, Hungary, California, and Tasmania, where almost half of the grapes are processed into sparkling wine.
