The Prosecco DOCG consortium in Conegliano Valdobbiadene has banned the use of pesticides containing glyphosate in its vineyards since 1 January 2019. This was announced by the consortium. The classification of Prosecco DOCG has also changed. A new category is "Rive", which identifies Prosecco from particularly difficult vineyards. They may only be sold on 1 March of the year following the harvest in order to give them more time on the fine lees. Also new are the appellations "Extra brut" and " Sui lievi", which makes Prosecco with bottle fermentation and a yeast base recognisable.
