Prince Robert of Luxembourg, CEO and chairman of the Bordeaux empire Domaine Clarence Dillon (Château Haut Brion among others), has sold his personal wine cellar for 6.2 million US dollars at Sotheby's. A total of 4,200 bottles of rare wines were auctioned. Thereby, 86 percent of the bottles achieved prices that were above their estimates. The wine cellar was estimated at 2.8 to 4 million US dollars before the auction. Participants from over 30 countries around the world attended, three times the usual number for a wine auction at Sotheby's. Among the top wines were a case of "Primum Familiae Vini Haute Couture Case & Passport", which sold for 237,500 US dollars; a bottle of Domaine Clarence Dillon Console and rare Château Haut Brion "Vertical", which changed hands for 112,500 US dollars; and a Château Haut Brion 1926 Jeroboam, which sold for 87,500 US dollars.

The entire proceeds will go to the PolG Foundation, which is dedicated to medical research on mitochondrial diseases. Prince Robert and his wife Julie established the foundation after their son Frederik de Nassau was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease in 2016.
