The buying and selling of French vineyards has been significantly slowed down by the Corona pandemic. According to figures from the "Safer" cadastral office, the number of transactions had fallen to a thirty-year low of 8,190. According to the figures, 2020 AOC vineyards cost an average of 150,500 euros per ha, only about 1.3 per cent more than in 2019.
In contrast, prices in the Bordeaux premium vineyards increased significantly. "The ten most expensive sales accounted for 18.8 percent of the French total", writes "Safer". Eight sales of prestige estates would have accounted for 72 percent of the transaction value in the Bordelais. These average prices jumped by 22 per cent to 2.8 million euros per hectare in Pauillac, by five per cent to two million euros in Pomerol, by 23 per cent to 1.6 million euros in Saint-Julien and by 15 per cent to 1.5 million euros in Margaux. Less renowned appellations such as Bordeaux AOC fell by 13 per cent to 13,000 euros per ha. In the Médoc AOC, the price dropped by 20 per cent to 40,000 euros per hectare.
