The winegrowers united in the "Interloire" association have presented the new category of a premium sparkling wine. The "Prestige de Loire" must come from the AOP Crémant de Loire, Saumur, Vouvray, Anjou and Touraine and be made from the grape varieties Chenin blanc, Cabernet franc, Chardonnay and Pinot noir. It may contain a maximum of twelve grams of residual sugar - but winemakers are granted a tolerance of three grams. It will be offered in three varieties: Brut nature, Extra brut and Brut.

According to the rules, identification of the vintage is obligatory. The base wines for the new top sparkling wine must mature for at least 24 months in the cellar and three months in the bottle. In addition, the grape producers must follow the rather demanding environmental guidelines of the "Haute Valeur Environnementale". The first 19 "Prestige de Loire" bottles were presented by the producers in Paris a few days ago. Among them is the well-known Crémant producer Bouvet-Ladoubay.
