A hidden bottling facility was discovered in the Portuguese city of Vila Real near the Spanish border. This was reported by the newspaper The Portugal News. Inspectors from the Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) had discovered counterfeit labels behind a concealed partition, with ready bottles labeled as Douro DOC Reserve. A total of around 1,330 falsely labeled bottles and 12,000 labels were seized. The winery was closed, and criminal proceedings were initiated against the operators for unlawful use of a designation of origin.

ASAE announced that it would further strengthen its controls to combat fraud and ensure fair competition among producers.
