"Piwi International", the international working group for the promotion of fungus-resistant grape varieties, has founded the German regional group "Piwi Deutschland". As early as in December, 21 founding members established an association that also wants to make Piwi varieties better known and to promote the work on sustainability in viticulture. Andreas Dilger (Freiburg/Breisgau) was elected chairman, Dr. Cornelia Wobar (Großräschen/Lausitz) vice-chairman and Gisela Wüstinger (Frasdorf/Upper Bavaria) treasurer. In the work, cooperations and interactions with other associations, federations and institutions are to be entered with the aim of "increasing the acceptance of wines from PIWIS among vintners and among wine customers". "Piwi International" has been mainly active in Austria, Switzerland and Italy so far.
