Pio Boffa, owner of the historic Pio Cesare winery in Piedmont, died last weekend at the age of 66 from the effects of a Covid 19 infection. For more than four decades, Boffa had written Italian wine history: early on, he recognised the importance of foreign markets for the wineries of his region. He travelled halfway around the world to present Barolo and Barbaresco, and his commitment played a significant role in the international fame of the two top wines from the Langa.

The winery, founded in 1881 and based in Alba, will be continued by his daughter Federica Boffa and his nephew Cesare Benvenuto.
