At this year's 'VDP.Auction.Reserve' at Kloster Eberbach, Rheingau wine rarities were auctioned for 250,632 Euros. A total of 42 lots from eleven wineries were available for sale. The highest bid was achieved for a six-liter Methuselah bottle of Riesling Monte Vacano 2023 from Winery Robert Weil. The unique piece started the auction with a valuation of 1,500 Euros and ultimately sold for 12,150 Euros. The Magnum bottles of this wine also changed hands for 1,010 Euros each.
In addition to current vintages, aged wines and special bottlings were the focus. Winery August Eser brought a 1966 Rauenthaler Rothenberg Riesling fine selection from its treasure chamber. The Georg Müller Foundation auctioned a "Cuvée Katharina" Riesling selection from 2006. Winery Kloster Eberbach presented, among others, a 2016 Assmannshäuser Höllenberg Frühburgunder.
Additionally, a historic charity wine was auctioned: The Pinot Noir from Assmannshäuser Höllenberg from 1926 from the treasure chamber of Kloster Eberbach raised 5,100 Euros for the Wiesbaden association "Aufwind! Wiesbaden". This supports children and teenagers whose parents are suffering from cancer.
A Erbacher Marcobrunn Riesling Beerenauslese from 1946 from the stock of Kloster Eberbach was auctioned for 2,800 Euros on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the state of Hesse.
The 'VDP.Auction.Reserve' is organized by VDP Rheingau and Winery Kloster Eberbach and is one of the regularly held auctions for German top wines.
