Spanish photographer Juan Miguel Ortuño Martinez has won the 'Louis Jadot Wine Photographer of the Year 2026' competition. His photo 'In the Depths of Deposit', which shows a worker cleaning an underground wine tank, was awarded.
The shot documents the work steps after wine production: The depicted worker removes residues of the previous vintage from the walls and floor of the tank with pressurized water. A small bucket with a sponge is then lowered to him to eliminate the remaining deposits.
The jury particularly appreciated the atmospheric representation of the often invisible work behind winemaking. The competition is part of the World Food Photography Awards and annually honors the best photographs related to wine.
In addition to the overall winner, the winners in the subcategories were also honored. Australian Chris Elfes won in the 'Places' category with an image of a hidden vineyard in Australia's Hunter Valley. In the 'Produce' category, British photographer Luke Carver triumphed with a shot from inside a traditional Georgian Kvevri vessel during the grape harvest.
