Sales of organically produced wines have declined slightly in France for the first time. However, the loss was much less than that of conventional wine. The latter's sales in the French retail trade fell by 4.8 per cent in volume and 1.1 per cent in value in 2021. Organic wines, on the other hand, increased by 2.8 per cent in value, despite the 0.4 per cent decline in volume. Thus, for the first time after many years of continuous growth, fewer organic wines were sold than in the previous year. However, their share in the retail trade continued to rise from 4 per cent to now 6 per cent. According to analyst Eric Marzec, producers should better explain the importance of organic viticulture on the bottles and link it to messages such as "local", "sustainable" or "social responsibility": "It is no longer enough to paint the bottle or the logo green."
