After three years of development, Österreich Wein Marketing (ÖWM) has presented the digital wine origin atlas riedenkarten.at. According to ÖWM it is the "world's first digital wine atlas for an entire wine-growing country". All legally defined wine origins of Austria are summarised there on an interactive map: from the wine-growing country of Austria to 27 wine-growing regions and 458 wine-growing communities to the more than 4,300 individual vineyards ("Rieden").
For all levels of origin, riedenkarten.at offers detailed explanations and information. According to ÖWM, the level of detail increases the smaller the origin becomes. Each single vineyard (Riede) contains, for example, information on vineyard area, altitude, slope, orientation, average temperature, rainfall and sunshine duration. The vineyards of Styria are currently being legally anchored and are to be integrated by the end of the year.
In addition to the digital publication, new vineyard maps of all wine-growing regions are now also available in print. The wine origin atlas as well as the printed maps were developed in a three-year cooperation of ÖWM with the Institute for Geography and Regional Research of the University Wien and the office plan+land.
