The French company Oenope has launched two cuvées from different European growing regions. "Borderless European Wine Oenope Red 2020" comes from Spain, Italy and France. The grape varieties used are Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay and Barbera. The Oenope White 2020 is a blend from Italy and France of Chardonnay and Riesling. The base wines of both cuvées were matured separately in steel tanks for nine months and for a further three months after blending. The project of the "borderless European wine" is supposed to have a symbolic character and set a sign of solidarity. The founders of Oenope, Jerome Felici and Françoise Roger, want to promote the idea of "Europe" as a unique terroir.

In times of globalisation and climate change, the model could become trend-setting. "If we can produce wine in Sweden in ten years, then that is a new opportunity for this country. But in Sicily, we might not be able to make wine in 20 years because it will be too warm. This new wine is to show that we can all work together on the future of wine," Jerome Felici said about the project.

Oenope supports wineries in the EU by buying up surplus stocks to make them into a complex and balanced European cuvée. In this way, the company wants to ensure the profitability of wine production in certain regions.
