The "Kylie Minogue Wines" introduced by pop star Kylie Minogue two years ago in collaboration with Benchmark Drinks are developing into a veritable success: according to the company, seven million bottles of the various wines have been sold so far. But the 0% Sparkling Rosé, which has been available since December, exceeds all expectations, according to the British industry magazine DrinksBusiness: During the Christmas period, a bottle of it was sold every ten seconds in the UK. No concrete figures are given, but it is estimated that between 150,000 and 280,000 bottles were sold in December alone. It is expected that the success will continue at least during "Dry January".
The sparkling wine consists of de-alcoholised base wines from Europe to which a strong green tea from the Liu Da mountains in the Chinese province of Yunnan was added during fermentation. This is supposed to make it taste drier and more complex. The residual sugar is only 4.9 grammes. As Minogue said in an interview, she feels that non-alcoholic wines are "often too sweet, they lack mouthfeel". At a tasting in New York, we reduced the sweetness until I was satisfied". The idea of using tea to soften the sweetness and increase mouth fullness is already being used by several producers of non-alcoholic wines and sparkling wines.
The supplier "Kylie Minogue Wines" will also have a stand in the French hall at ProWein in Düsseldorf this year.
