A magnum bottle of Dom Pérignon 1961, produced specifically for the wedding of Lady Diana and the then Prince of Wales, remained unsold at an auction in December 2025. The bottle was one of only twelve magnums specially bottled for this occasion and was submitted by a Danish collector. The estimated price of the Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen was between 67,000 and 80,000 euros.
Despite great public interest, the bids did not reach the required minimum price threshold. Previously, another bottle of this special edition had been sold at an auction in Derbyshire for only around 3,700 euros, reports the magazine Drinks Business. This highlights how difficult it is to accurately assess very rare wines. Factors such as origin, condition of the bottle, and fill level significantly influence the price.
The 1961 vintage bottles of Dom Pérignon are generally considered desirable. According to the platform iDealwine, this vintage version has been sold multiple times in recent years, most recently in 2025 for only 412 euros. The aging makes the bottles increasingly interesting for collectors, while they become less attractive for wine connoisseurs.
Experts view the market for such collector bottles as limited: wine enthusiasts generally prefer vintage bottles with intact quality and moderate prices, while the demand for editions specifically related to the royal wedding primarily exists among collectors.
