The German Railway (DB) has presented its new wines for onboard catering in the ICE and Intercity trains. In the tendering and selection process, it was supported by the German Wine Institute (DWI). In two tasting rounds, the following were selected from 220 submitted wines:
The winners among the white wines were the dry Grauburgunder from the Keth winery in Rheinhessen and the dry Riesling from the Peter Stolleis winery in the Palatinate. The red wine offered is the cuvée "That’s Neiss Tinto Réserve" from the Palatinate winery Neiss, all in 0.25-liter bottles. The sparkling wine is a Riesling Sekt brut from Schloss Affaltrach in Württemberg in a 0.2-liter bottle.
The change of the assortment will take place in June. Annually, around one million small bottles of wine and sparkling wine are sold on DB's long-distance trains. The Grauburgunder has the largest share with around 400,000 bottles. Last year, DB transported 134.5 million passengers on its ICE and Intercity trains.
