In order to enhance the value of steep-slope wines from the Piedmontese wine-growing regions of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, the new collective brand Sorì Eroici will be available from the 2021 vintage. The project was initiated by the Associazione Comuni del Mos cato (Association of Moscato Communities) with its headquarters in Santo Stefano Belbo. The registered trademark is based on a process of many years, including the mapping of 20,000 hectares of vineyards.

So far, 13 wineries with a total of 44 hectares of steep slope vineyards have committed to the recording protocol. Prerequisites are vineyards with a slope of at least 40 percent that cannot be mechanised. Producers must also demonstrate certification that they manage their vineyards sustainably (organic, biodynamic, integrated). The first separately vinified wines with the Sorì Eroici logo will be launched on the market in the coming months. These will primarily be Moscato d'Asti, but also Barbera and Dolcetto .

Luca Luigi Tosa, one of the co-founders of the project and vice-mayor of the municipality of Cossano Belbo, told wein.plus: We are proud to finally give the tireless, hard work of our winegrowers and winemakers the visibility it deserves. Together we want to prevent these vineyards from being left to their own devices at some point. It's an important signal for our region and I'm sure many more farms will join us."
