The consortium Vini di Romagna presented the new collective brand "Rocche di Romagna" in Ravenna. The brand is intended to distinguish in the future the Romagna Sangiovese produced in the 16 subzones of the production area: Serra, Brisighella, Marzeno, Modigliana, Oriolo, Castrocaro, Predappio, Meldola, Bertinoro, Cesena, Mercato Saraceno, Longiano, Imola, Coriano, San Clemente and Verucchio. The subzones may only be listed on the wine label if the Romagna Sangiovese is at least 95 per cent Sangiovese.
"The aim of the Rocche di Romagna brand is to raise awareness of the multiple identities of Sangiovese in our territory and to arouse curiosity about the productions of the individual subzones," said Ruenza Santandrea, president of the Consorzio Vini di Romagna, at the presentation.
The aim is to encourage consumers and members to seek ever more authentic expressions of Sangiovese, which is an excellent interpreter of the soils on which it grows. The brand is intended to help Romagna Sangiovese gain more visibility, especially on international markets.
