The Château Lafite***** collection of a member of the Rothschild family will be auctioned on December 1 at Sotheby’s in Paris. The special thing about it is that the wines not only come from the private cellar of the collector but also were stored at the Château itself and had never been moved before the inspection by Sotheby's in September and October. The total lower estimate for all 61 lots is over one million euros.
Highlights of the auction include:
A bottle of Lafite 1870, Ex-Château, estimate 45,000–60,000 euros
Four bottles of Lafite 1878, Private cellar, estimate 4,500–6,000 euros per bottle.
Two bottles of Lafite 1895, Ex-Château, estimate 20,000–30,000 euros per bottle.
Three bottles of Lafite 1928, Ex-Château, estimate 10,000–15,000 euros per bottle.
36 bottles of Lafite 1945 in ten lots, estimate 10,000–15,000 euros per bottle.
A double magnum Lafite 1959, Private cellar, estimate 17,000–24,000 euros.
A specially assembled lot for this auction with one bottle each of the vintages 1928, 1945, 1949, 1953, 1955, and 1982, Ex-Château, 40,000–60,000 euros.
Partially, the bottles were re-labeled and reconditioned. Recently, wines from the collection of a member of the Rothschild family were auctioned at the auction house Zachys in New York for more than nine million euros.
