The Michelin Guide, known worldwide for its restaurant classification, will now also award wines. This was announced by Michelin director Gwendal Poullennec last week, reports the French magazine La revue du vin de France. Details regarding the timeline, evaluation criteria, and the names of the tasters are still outstanding.
The company has been the owner of Robert Parker Wine Advocate since 2019. The established brand of international wine criticism is expected to continue alongside Michelin, clarified Michelin CEO Florent Menegaux.
In recent years, the Guide has significantly expanded its business model: After acquiring Tablet Hotels in 2018, Michelin launched its first hotel classification, the "Michelin Key" (clefs Michelin), in 2024. This award complements the world-renowned star rating of restaurants.
The Guide, which will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2025, is active in around 70 countries worldwide. It is primarily financed through partnerships with governments and companies, as well as, for some time now, through hotel bookings and restaurant reservations.
